Purpose -  The purpose of this course is to provide Kindergarten English Language Arts students with the skills needed to become proficient readers in order to thrive in and out of the classroom.   This course focuses on the PA Core Standards for English Language Arts.  The five areas of focus are: Foundational Skills, Reading Informational; Text, Reading Literature; Writing; and Speaking and Listening.

Materials -  We will be utilizing a variety of materials during this school year, which include but are not limited to:  95% Group materials; Heggerty materials; Amira Reading resources, Step into Reading resources and curriculum, ECRI Lesson materials, oral reading fluency passages, as well as supplemental phonemic awareness materials; supplemental phonics materials for phonics and decoding strategies. 

Assessments and Grading - Reading grades are completed by the classroom teacher, as this is an intervention class.  Data from Acadience, DRA 3 and Amira Reading will be utilized for formative instruction and grouping.
